On that day, the suspect, who was recently released from prison, murdered four Oakland Police Department veteran personnel. This was the deadliest occurrence in the history of OPD and one of the most significant law enforcement losses in California as well as the nation. Acting Chief of Police Howard Jordan ordered that an independent review be conducted to understand how this happened and what can be done to prevent a future recurrence. Assistant Chief Howard A. Jordan is a veteran of the OPD, having served for more than 20 years in a range of assignments including patrol, investigations, internal affairs and administration. Managing a staff of more than 800 police officers and 370 non-sworn personnel, Chief Jordan is a consensus builder who motivates others towards better performance. He considers all possible solutions while making decisions and stays calm in crisis. Chief Jordan saw the Department through the difficult hours of March 21, 2009, when four officers were gunned down in less than 3 hours. Jamie Duignan is a detective with the Chicago Police Department, and is proud to be approaching her 10th anniversary as in law enforcement. • 06/17/10--15:00: Officer Fired After Reporting Corruption; Part 2 - Jun 17,2010 (chan 2936599)
  • Newark Police Officer Darren Nance was fired after he reported misconduct by police supervisors. According to Darren Nance, and several other Newark Police officers and supervisors, officers complaints of misconduct are never investigated. However, the officer who files the complaint is then charged with some infraction and sanctioned. According to the Newark Police Department’s internal investigation rules, all complaints shall be objectively and thoroughly investigated. The New Jersey Attorney General Guidelines compel a police agency to thoroughly investigate all complaints of misconduct. Witnesses emphatically state, under oath, that officers’ complaints of misconduct are not objectively and thoroughly investigated or assigned to an investigator. Why has the Newark New Jersey Police Department been able to consistently violate the law without detection? We will discuss this issue and other acts of police misconduct committed by the Newark Police Department.

  • The recent petition by the New Jersey American Civil Liberties Union for Department of Justice intervention into the Newark Police Department is an indication of serious systemic problems. Numerous citizens and community activists have complained about the negative and arguably criminal acts perpetrated by police officers upon citizens. Moreover, police officers that have reported misconduct of fellow police officers have suffered retaliatory sanctions including termination. The facts revealed in numerous civil law suits, and the exceptionally low rate of sustained citizen complaints can’t be simply dismissed as coincidence. On Thursday November 18, 2010, at 6:00 PM, the Justice For All Show will have a special extended segment to discuss the Newark Police Department. Invited participants include Newark Police Director Gary McCarthy, Newark Municipal Council members, Newark Fraternal Order of Police, Eric Josey of the 100 Blacks In Law Enforcement Who Care, a representative of the Peoples Organization For Progress, a representative from the ACLU, police expert Richie Rivera, Newark Bronze Shields, community leaders, and others with expertise in the field of law enforcement. For decades there have been reports of serious misconduct and violations of citizens’ rights. Recently the New Jersey ACLU has filed a 96-page petition detailing numerous systemic problems plaguing the Newark New Jersey Police Department. Additionally, scores of police officers have filed civil suits and made official reports of police misconduct and violations of citizens’ rights. Several officers have been terminated after they officially reported serious police misconduct to their supervisors. Still, the outgoing police director Garry F.
